The Accidental Tourist Class 9th: Summary
The author finds that surviving in the real world is quite special. Others do the work without any haste. But he cannot do this. Many times he could not find a toilet in the cinema hall. He even forgot his room number in a hotel.
Once the writer went on a big tour with his family on Easter. He was going to England for 7 days. They were entering Logan Airport in Boston. It came to his notice at that time that he had then joined British Airways’ frequent flyer program. He was sure that he had put the card in his bag and It was hanging around his neck.
The zip of the bag was jammed and this made him angry. He opened up the zip very furiously and his things like pipe, tobacco tin, magazines, passport, money, etc. were scattered far and wide. He looked at these things with great amazement. He yelled at his tobacco. His finger was injured. He was bleeding. The wound was deep. He was very upset. His wife looked at him in amazement.
The writer always used to get upset about air travel as it always created great problems for the other passengers. Once he bent down to tie the shoelaces. Then someone pushed his seat back. He lay on the floor. He had to hold the leg of a person near him.
On another occasion, he spilled a drink twice in a woman’s bag. The woman looked at him in surprise. He took an oath saying ‘oh’. It was not his worst experience. His worst experience was when he was writing down his thoughts in flight. He had his pen in his mouth. It leaked when he started talking to the lady sitting in the front seat. He went to the toilet. He noticed that his mouth, chin, tongue, teeth, and gums had turned navy blue.
The author’s wife used to warn the children about the author during flights. When he was alone, he would neither eat nor drink. He used to sit quietly. This would reduce his laundry bills. At that stage, the author could not get the flying miles. He could not get the card on time. He knew that others were flying first class with their air miles to Bali. But he didn’t get anything. He should be flying 100,000 miles a year. But he hardly got 212 air miles from 23 airlines.
In January he flew to Australia. He expected to get more than a trillion air miles. But the clerk told him that he was not authorized to do so. He asked the clerk about the reason. In the name of Bryson. He told that Bill and William were one and the same. But he did not accept it.
