A Selfish Giant Class 8th: Summary
The story starts with children merrily playing in the garden of a giant. They used to play every afternoon. The garden was very lovely, spacious, and covered with soft green luscious grass and a lot of fruit trees. The trees are loaded with rich juicy fruits and the birds are singing melodiously while perching.
One day after seven or more years the giant that is the owner of the garden came back. He was staying with his friend, the cornish Ogre. The children became scared after they saw the giant. The giant forbade them to come to the garden and play. He built a strong wall and put a notice on the board where it was written ‘Trespassers will be prosecuted.
The children became gloomy as they were left with no place to play and enjoy. They wander here and there around the high walls. They used to remember the fun and play they do inside the garden.
As soon as the spring season came, the little birds chirp all around the whole day and there were new shoots and flowers blooming. But to everyone’s surprise, there were winters in the giant’s garden. Not a single bird came and sing on his fruit trees. Once a flower bloomed but after reading the notice board, it did not come.
Later on, when the north wind and hailstorms came, due to the giant’s selfish attitude, autumn’s golden fruits did not come to his garden fruit trees. When one day the giant heard a very sweet and melodious voice of a linnet bird singing in his window. The hail and the north wind stopped and now he could feel the spring.
To his surprise, he could see one little boy who could climb the tree, there was still winter. The tree tried to help and lowered its branches but the boy could not reach the tree. This scene melted the heart of the selfish giant. He decided to pull down the wall and let the little kids come inside the garden.
The giant was happy to have kids playing in his garden, the children were also happy. As soon as the children came back, the spring also came back with them. The flowers bloom and the birds sing sweetly sitting on the branches fledged with juicy fruits. The boy smiled and asked the giant to come and play with him. Later on, he found the giant dead under a tree covered with white blossoms.

The giant was selfish as he did not allow the children to play in his garden. He built a wall around his garden with a warning on it to scare away the children.
